Description
A tree to plant as a family, to pick your own figs!
The ‘Brown Turkey’ fig tree is the gift for food lovers: a living tree, hardy and generous, that bears its first figs generally within two years of planting. A reward to share, young and old alike.
Big leaves, then sweet figs
The ‘Brown Turkey’ fig tree (Ficus carica ‘Brown Turkey’) is a hardy, generous fig tree with a bushy, spreading habit. Its large lobed leaves, shaped like a hand, give way, from summer to autumn, to brown figs with thin skin and melting, very sweet flesh. It is self-fertile: a single tree is enough to harvest. It needs full sun, sheltered from cold winds, and withstands cold down to -15 °C.
Plant, water, wait for the first figs
Digging the hole, setting the young tree, watering it, spreading the mulch: every step is easy to share with children, who discover how a fruit tree grows. It is then up to them to keep up the watering in dry summers, measure its height each season, watch for the first fruit and, one day, pick and taste it. A young gardener in charge of their own tree, rewarded with their own figs.
